How Long Does the Employer Have to Press Charges
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Calgary, AB. I work for an employer and while working there I accidently used their credit card for some purchases, I truly thought I was using mine as both cards had looked alike. But when I noticed that it was not my card I notified them right away and then an investigation started, that was over one year ago now, I still work for that employer and I have asked repeatadly for them to start taking money off my pay to pay back the amount that I used.
There is only one charge that was done on purpose and that was a bail that I posted for my son, see I did not know that in Canada we had bail bondsmen so I knew that I had the amount needed to get my son out of jail on my work credit card so I used it thinking that when we went back to court in the next 3 days I would get it back right away and would be able to put it right back on the card. Well no one told me that I would not actually get it back until there was a decission on the charge that he was being charged with. I know I should not have done this but, he is my son and through no fault of his this happened and I could not leave him there.
So I did not get that amount back for over 3 months and well by then it was too late.
So long and short this happened over 1 1/2 years ago and I still work for that employer and I have not been fired, nor has there been a charge laid against me, nor have they started to take money of my pay.
I have my Uion rep standing in for me but....what is the statute for pressing charges on something like this?
And it will probably come out that money has been very tight these last three years for several reasons.
