In 1999 I was charged with a Simple Worthless Check in Forsyth County North Carolina. I wrote a check by accident from a old checkbook ,anyway the store tried to contact me but I was no longer living at that address when they were sending certified letters finally I got one and it was for like 5 checks that I had worte on the same day in the same store, anyway I went to the store and paid the fees and fines. then the man at the store was like I had to go to the magistrate or somewhere just to show proof of receipt that I paid then I never thought about it until 3 years later I applied for a job and they did a background check and mentioned it to me.I was like 21 at the time I had never been downtown in trouble or anything in my life, nor since....This has become a hinderance at job interviews as of recent years. I have held jobs at several companies like AT&T Wireless , American Express etc.....And I always would disclose this info but I recently had a job offer recinded because of this . I am getting tired of having to explain myself I wish it could just go away I have contacted lawyers in Winston-Salem but some say it can be expunged others say no ....I found one atty who said they could do it for 1500.00 please I am not law savvy what advice could anyone give me I would greatly appreciate it.
