My question involves paternity law for the State of: Washington
Before my husband and I got together he was dating a girl off and on for a few years. This girl got pregnant and told my husband that he was the father. He believed her and signed the birth certificate without requesting a paternity test. He only had a couple of months of contact with this child when the child was about a year old and then him and I got together and she has refused contact. Since then we have heard from other people that she says he is not even the father, we have even seen emails she sent to someone telling them that he was not the father. We also have come across a protection order that she filed against the guy who she is saying is the father now. This protection order was filed while she was pregnant with the child, and she says that he is the father in the protection order. The child is almost 3 years old now. What can we do? Can he get a paternity and prove that he is not the father? Will he have any legal obligations if we prove he is not the father?
