Default Can We File for Child Abandonment

My question involves child abuse or neglect in the State of: Oregon

My question involves child support in the State of: Oregon

My sister's boyfriend is in the state of Oregon. My sister is currently in Taiwan. My sister has had depression for the late several months and after she came back from visiting him on Christmas she found herself pregnant. Now my sister's boyfriend is refusing to have any contact with her that made her desperate and pushed her to attempt suicide.

She is still in a coma in the hospital right now, but the doctor says the baby is miraculously still intact but not sure how much damage was done. For her physical state it is hard to operate or have an abortion so we have to observe and if possible keep the baby after a few months.

Now the question is that one of my sister's friend has tried to contact him few days ago but he is not responding and refuse to deal with this problem. Me and my family would like to know if it is possible to charge him with (criminal) child abandonment after the baby is born in the state of Oregon. Or is there any action that we can do to hold this person responsible for his part on this child?

Any help is very much appreciated!

Because they are not married, and because the baby is not born yet, abandonment is not an option.

BF does not have any legal obligation to acknowledge her attempts to contact him. The only time that he will is after the baby is born and your sister files to establish paternity, CS, custody, etc. Which is what your sister should do as soon as the baby is born.

I'm sorry that your sister felt that suicide was the only way. I'm not sure if you are asking if the BF can be held responsible for your sister's suicide attempt or not. In case you are, your sister is responsible for her own actions, even if the attempt was brought on by depression, or her BF's actions.

I agree with Xena's reply. It would be my opinion that abandonment would not be established during such a period. I'm sorry your sister had to go through all this. You need to get stable support from someone experienced. Find a counselor through to help her come out of this...
