Default Hit from Behind. Dont Want to Involve My Insurance

My question involves an injury that occurred in the state of: Washington.

I was hit from behind with minimal damage which was a tail light, lift gate off center (though it seems to open and close normally), turn signal not working, maybe more. (95 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo) I have not gotten an estimate yet and I have not notified my insurance either. The teen that hit me didn't know his parents insurance information (parents owned the SUV). I wrote down all the other information and I finally got the insurance information after a week. The parents want my insurance info but I do not want my insurance to know I was in a accident.

I did not tell the parent but the teen tried to "hit and run" me. After hitting me he zipped around, took off and turned a corner then got stuck in the snow. Only after trying to get unstuck for a few minutes did he then get out and discuss what had happened.

I guess my question is do I need to give my insurance info to the parent? I really don't want this on my record.

If the accident wasn't your fault, it shouldn't be held against you or your ins. rates raised. (generally that's the case)

How are you planning on getting your vehicle fixed? If you are planning on using the other party's ins. (his parents' ins.), the co. will want to know about the damage to your vehicle & most likely ask for the name of your ins. co.

It's always best to report any accident to your ins. co. (unless both partys agree not to get ins. involved & the at-fault party will pay to get your vehicle fixed.)
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.
