Default How Long Does It Take for the Police to Conclude Their Investigation
My question involves criminal law for the state of: califronia

So I ordered stuff with other people's credit card online and have them shipped to a random address.

I didnt use my own computer to do this.

This happened in Feb 2008 and its now Jan 2009. I have been very scared the whole time and regret what I have done.

Are the police still investigating. The amount is around 100 dollars.

This all depends on how you obtained the "other people's credit cards"

Did you murder them and take the card from their dead body?

I am sure you didnt just find the credit card number laying in the street.

It is hard to give you advice without knowing all of the facts leading up to this.

I don't suppose that regret has lead you to make restitution and confess, has it?

They might be.

If it is a felony, the state has three years to charge you with a crime.

i have good memories. i can look at a card and memorize the digits.
i can take a look at someones id and memorize the address name etc..
it was a big mistake. i will repay everything if i remembered the names.

Well, if you sent them to a random address, then it's likely they won't find you. For $100 they are not going to spend thousands of dollars hunting you down.

But, they do have three years to try. If your conscience is bothering you, then you need to talk to someone to clear it ... make good on your crime.

Heck, the crime may never have been reported, for all you know.

I have talked to couple lawyers and was advised to contact them if i were to be contacted by the police. Who should I talk to in order to clear it?
It was a very stupid mistake and I will never do it again!

You'd have to speak to whatever agency took the report. Who that might be depends on where the victim lives, or, where the crime occurred. The victim could be the person whose card you used, or it might be the business that shipped the item and did not get paid, or it might be the credit card company.

No way for us to know for certain.
