Unhappy Forged Checks
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Georgia

I was working in the financial department of a company as a contractor. (meaning, I was paid each time I was there by company check.) There were two people who would sign my checks.. the manger or asst. manager. I never filled out a time sheet and they would normally sign a blank check and I would fill out the amount due. They left one day and forgot to sign check for me, so i signed it and filled it out. A few days later I wa going to stop on my way in and deposit it, but couldnt find it. I though I had lost it, so I took one to replace it. I found the missing one, and deposited it as well. (VERY stupid, i know...) So now they are pressing charges that 1) I forged the checks and 2) they claim the hours for those checks is not valid. I have no way to prove that the hours for the 1 check IS valid... but I would think that also mean they cant prove its not. (right?) I have never been in trouble before and i have a 2 yr old that I am a stay at home mom to. I was doing this work as a favor to them.
I cant afford an attorney. I have already spoken with an investigator and given my side of the story. Just waiting to hear back. What am i looking at?? Jail??

It doesn't much matter if you're claiming that you forged the checks, but only stole $475 instead of stealing $950. From what you say, in presenting "your side" to the investigating officer (assuming it's what you posted here), you still confessed to forging the checks and stealing $475.

You need a lawyer. If you can't afford one, request a court-appointed lawyer.
