Default Problems after crystal lens replacement surgery

    Hi,
I was talked into a cystal lens on my right eye when I went in for a regular eye exam. I was told that it would enable me to read without glasses and that my far-away vision would remain the same (great). Unfortunately, the vision did not get better. I actually lost my driving vision and now can not read without glasses that are 3x what I used before. I finally complained (after 2 months of doing the eye exercises) and they called in a representative fr. the Crystal Lens company to have a look. My doctor kept saying that it was placed perfectly. When he stepped out of the office and the Crystal Lens Dr. had a look, he shook his head and said "To deep, it's implanted too deep". He quickly caught himself and refused to say anything else about it. The Dr. refused to talk to me on the basis that he would let my Dr. explain the situation to me. My Dr. never mentioned this but rather said that he couldn't take the new lens out and that the only option I had was to let him do another implant on top or lasik. Is this correct and do I have any recourse. I don't want to pay for any more surgery. I paid 5 grand for this botch-up. thank you, Evelia

    Default Problem with Eye

Your first recourse is to speak to another ophthalmologist to find out if you have any reasonable medical options.

I know this thread is ancient but I hope the following info helps someone. I had the Crystal lens implanted in 2005 and my vision got progressively cloudier & harder to focus over the next 7 yrs. Finally had enough & went to the eye doctor today. Turns out the problem is common and the solution is well known & an in-office fix.

When the Crystal lens is inserted in the old lens sack, the docs leave the back half of the sack in place to support the new lens. This portion of original sack tends to cloud with age obscuring the vision & making focus almost impossible. The solution is an in-office fix with a YAG laser- the old sack layer is punctured in multiple places with the laser to form a cross of dots. The old membrane breaks along the dots & shrinks to the periphery of the eye. The result is a clear lens backside & wonderful results.

Good luck- I don't know why my 'crack' eye dock that installed the lens didn't tell me about this but now you know.

FYI- the Crystal lens does work- it's a true gift. Maybe there is new tech out there since 2005 but this thing does work well.

    Good Luck
    Fredf
