Question Several Questions About Emancipation in PA

I am a 17 year old girl. I want to get emancipated from my mother so bad. My father is dead, and she gets an awful lot of Social Security money from that and I've heard from her friends that she spent all of the survivor benefits money she got when he died. According to her, we are in a horrible financial situation. She has threatened to sell the house and make us live in a cardboard box.

I work in a pharmacy for a living and she is constantly taking my money and supposedly using it for bills, yet she always seems to have money to get her hair/nails done or to buy cigarettes, but not food for me and my younger brother.

My brother is always doing things that are emotionally and physically harmful to me, such as throwing things at me, hitting me with things, threatening to kill me, and at one point he threatened me with a knife. He is a lot bigger than me and I don't feel safe being at home alone with him. The saddest part is that my mom lets him get away with all of these things, including cussing and swearing at her and bossing both of us around.

I have often considered moving in with my boyfriend, who has his own apartment and is pretty well off financially. I get a decent paycheck and actually I made more money than my mom did at her job for a while.

I have considered trying to get emancipated before, however I need to know three things: 1) If I can even get emancipated in the first place 2) How much money it would cost, seeing as how I have none, and 3) How long this would take because I don't want it to take so long that I turn 18 before it's finished.

Oh, another thing is that I know she will NEVER give her consent for me to do that. I'm not even allowed to go out of the house without her consent, let alone get emancipated & move out!

    1.) No

    2.) More than you have

3.) Since it's not going to happen, the length of time it would take is moot.

If you are unable to support yourself, you cannot be emancipated. This does not mean living with your boyfriend and having him support you. Not to mention that there is not a judge on earth who will emancipate a teen so she can go live with her boyfriend.

    End of story.

That's not WHY I'm moving out. Did you even read anything above that statement? I can most likely support myself without his help, but he does make a lot of money anyways.

    You're not helping!

Actaully she did help. Tell you what you show us how your going to

    . support yourself 100%
    . pay your own rent
. pay your own food, health insurance, electric etc etc
. keep your grades up in school
Just for starters. By the way less than 1% of those who seek emancipation (if your state has a statute) are successful. How are you different?

Well, I don't make a whole lot of money but I make enough for just me. I'll have to figure out the costs of everything when I have more free time but I know where I could get an apartment close enough for me to walk to my job and to school.

I live in a very small little town so basically everything is within walking distance. I can't drive because my brother stole my wallet and my permit was in there. I don't have health insurance now, and I don't hardly ever go to the doctor so I don't think it would be necessary. They can't exactly force me to have health insurance.

I can definitely keep my grades up in school, its not very hard now as it is because even with my job I have 12 study halls per week. And I usually get my work done anyhow. I'm not an A+ student but I get B+'s... Like a C at the very lowest.

Some, not all, counties in PA will emancipate a minor. However, until you actually have that job and apartment, don't even bother applying.

Oh, okay well I can see if my county will do that. And I do already have the job but the apartment might be an issue. Thanks for the information
