IRS Bank Levy

I have a IRS Bank Levy question also. Today when I logged into my bank account, which is a joint account with my husband, it stated that someone had withdrawn $3000.00 from our saving. I called the bank right away, the bank associate told me there was a Levy placed on our bank account by the NY finance and tax. My husband lived in NY 11 years ago, and when he did so he always paid his taxes and received a return every year. I on the other hand have never lived in NY. Since married we have filed our taxes jointly in Florida and always received a return. We have never received anything from NY Finance and Tax that we have any outstanding balances. I feel very lost and don't know what to do. I haven't been able to contact NY Finance and Tax yet since it is Sat. and they are not open. They took our money without notice for something we don't even know what it is.

There is nothing that you are going to be able to do until you can call them on Monday. Most likely it is your husband who will have to call.

We called NY state tax deparment today. They told us that in 1997, when my husband was living in NY, he had filed is taxes and stated he was due a return. After the NY tax had reviewed his taxes they said he owed money. They had sent notices to he address, but at that time my husband had moved to Florida, so he never received any notices. My husband worked for a company in NY until July 1997 after that he recived unemployment until Dec. when he moved to Florida. Apperantly my husband never paid taxes on the unemployment he received and that is where the taxes owed are from. Again we never knew anything about this, since we never received one notice. The agent on the phone told as that a judgement against my husband was filed in 1999, which we also didn't know anything about. And here we are today. They put a levy on our bank account and took out all the money we have. We can not pay our mortgage or feed our children. Is there anything we can do? Is there any SOL on judgements against you?
Please any help regarding this would be appreciated.
