My question involves a traffic citation from the state of: MD
I have been recieving calls from a collection agency, stating that they are a legal firm, regarding two parking tickets that were "supposedly" recieved on a vehicle that I haven't owned in three years.
According to the city, the tickets were issued on the same spot, on the same day, four years ago. I have never seen the tickets in question. The vehicle in question was totalled about 3 months after the date that the parking tickets were supposedly issued, so the tags were turned in to the MVA and are "dead".
Now, 4 years later they are stating that I am responsible for @ $1500 in fine and fees for these tickets.
I have been told that parking citiations are against the vehicle, not the owner, and that the only thing the city could do would be to flag the tags of the vehicle in question (which no longer exists).
Is it true that the city cannot come after me (i.e. sue me) for these citations?
Thanks bunches
