    Default Domestic Battery Attorney Fees

My question involves criminal law for the state of: IL

My brother was recently charged with domestic battery. He and an ex-girlfriend got into an argument, and he apparently grabbed car keys out of her hand. Both were drinking at the time. (No one was driving.) My brother has a clean record, otherwise.

After reading this forum, I believe he needs an attorney. Can anyone tell me how much time an attorney would have to spend preparing for his upcoming court date? Are there typical tasks/activities that have to happen prior to the court date, or would the attorney just review the facts and show up and speak on behalf of my brother?

The other members of his family will have to pay for the attorney, and we are trying to figure out what to expect in terms of cost.

Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks very much!!

Legal assistance fees are not regulated so each attorney can charge what he/she feels the case warrants based on it's merits. I have seen similar cases range from $600 all the way up to $35,000. There are too many variables to consider.

Best bet, call around and make appointments for free consults, get facts and numbers, in writing and go from there.
