Default Settling with a Collection Agency After a Lawsuit Has Been Filed
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Ohio

A lawsuit has been filed against me by a collection agency. I am not trying to dispute the debt. I was wondering if anyone had any experience in settleing a debt after the lawsuit was filed but before a judgement was passed. I would rather try and settle than have to go to court. Any advice is appreciated, Thank You.

Many people settle debts while a lawsuit is pending. Talk to the plaintiff's lawyer.

The expiration of the statute of limitations provides the opportunity to raise that law as an affirmative defense. If it's not properly raised, it is waived.

I agree with Mr. Knowitall that you certainly can try settling a debt before going to court & getting a judgment against you. *Sometimes* the plaintiff's lawyer will settle for a lesser amount and/or set up a monthly payment plan though they don't have to.
