Default Removal of Paid Consumer Credit
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: NC
I had several credit cards that I had paid off through a consumer credit agency. Macys Department Store would not come to an agreement, but I paid the debt completely off, with no negotiations, but on my credit report it comes up as an adverse account with the remark ACCT CLOSED BY CREDIT GRANTOR. My question is, how can I get this off my account?

Was the account delinquent? Did Macy's close the account prior to you paying it off?

No, it wasn't deliquent. I just consolidated my bills with a consumer credit company. They got agreements with everyone except Macy's and they would not co-operate. The consumer credit company still set up a payment amount and sent it to them anyway. They never sent any other information and they surely took the money until I paid them in full. They did not close the account either until it was paid in full.

I suspect they did close the account before you paid it off. Once you told them, "I want to only pay off part of my bill as satisfaction of my account," you revealed yourself to be a terrible credit risk for any additional purchases. But whether they closed the account then or the moment they received payment in full, it appears to be very much their position that they made the decision to close the account.

See, that's the whole thing we didn't negotiate. I paid them everything that was charged. I never was late on payments. I merely did a consolidation of all my bills to have one monthly payment verses having multiple bills to pay with high interest. Actually none of my bills were negotiated. I was trying to protect my credit, I thought. Macy's is the only negative thing on my credit report. I don't understand if Sears and Discover cards can be paid off and not show up on my credit report, Macy's should too.

The law requires a data furnisher to only report information that is complete and accurate, but it does not require them to report, so some creditors choose to be nice, while others choose to leave negatives there.

If the trade is complete and accurate, there is little you can do beyond disputing with the CRA.
