So, I sold my car several years ago but I forgot to transfer the title (report it to the DMV). I live in MN and just received a mail from towing company in Virginia saying I owe $2,000 on the car that I sold several years ago.

I am not sure if I still have the bill of sale (going to check tomorrow). What should my next actions be, other than finding the bill of sale? I'm guessing this isn't going to be pretty.....

Should the towing company have given me more of a proper warning? or am I just forced to pay $2,000 then?....
