    Exclamation Speeding Ticket in Washington

My question involves a speeding ticket from the State of Washington.

It was an undercover police officer. I rounded a corner and saw him parked on the side of the road, I immediately slowed to 40, the posted speed. He pulled out behind me and followed me approximately a mile to the end of the road and THEN turned his lights on and pulled me over. He told me I was doing 58 in a 40 and gave me my citation and left. The ticket says he used a SMD and it is a $195 ticket. I am within my first 6 months of having my drivers license and have a clean record...

I want to fight this. Please help!

Fight it? Using WHAT as a defense? The fact that you "immediately slowed to 40" when you saw the officer?

You're better off asking for a deferral. Do a search. There are MANY threads here which discuss it. At least that will keep it off your record and keep your insurance from going up.

I agree with Barry on this.

You haven't given us - strangers - much to work with. A judge will be equally unimpressed.

Remember that RaDAR sees you before you see it. Also bear in mind that RaDAR detectors are only sufficiently sensitive to let you know when you're about to get a ticket.

When I was a cop, we had a magistrate who would say to people, "Congratulations on having a clean driving record. Until now."

Deferring it would be your best bet. Just talk to the clerk of court where your ticket lives and s/he should be able to tell you that court's method for handling it.
