How Do I Obtain New Title

My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: New York. My wife purchased a suv for a friend with the understanding he would transfer over loan after 3 months. It was all a scam. After 3 months, he was very late on the payments then he stop paying all together. When my wife asked for suv back he refused. He forged her signature on title and re-registered suv in a girlfriend's name. Up until this time suv was titled, registered, insured, and bank loan all in my wife's name. When bank started looking for suv he started hiding suv in garages. My wife filed police report and sued him civilly. He was arrested and charged w/ unauthorized use. Case keeps getting adjourned. Civil case has gone nowhere because he works off the books and owes tons of other people. We have talked to different people in Dept of Motor Vehicles as well as the Asst District Atty and have gotten nowhere since Jan 2008. We need help BAD in this situation. Suv is not paid for and we have it sitting in driveway unable to use or sell because we don't have a title. DMV has tried contacting other woman to no avail. We don't want bank to reposses w/ negative credit score especially when we are trying to buy new house. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

You didn't bother to try to have the transfer of title voided as part of your civil lawsuit? Well then, that's something to look into, if it's not too late. Talk to your lawyer.
