Correctable Citation Regarding Registration and Proof of Insurance

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: California

I received a correctable citation regarding my registration sticker and proof of insurance. I did not have my current sticker on because I did not have a smog check yet but had paid for my registration first. I had a temporary proof of insurance form in my car that did not state the expiration date. Eventually, I did my smog and received my current sticker. My brother in-law and my sister borrowed my car and unfortunately got hit by another vehicle. When I went to pick them up, I had found the proper proof of insurance and it stated that my insurance expired a month prior. When filing a claim, it turns out that my policy was cancelled and I was not aware of it. I had sent a payment in advance to cover the full six months and my insurance informed me that they did not receive it. I'm upset because I did not receive anything form of notice! On top of that, the car is a total loss. Damages are worth more than the vehicle. I do not know what to do from here!

That means, of course, that you did not have valid registration. If you obtain that before trial, you should be able to get that signed off as corrected.

On top of that, the car is a total loss. Damages are worth more than the vehicle. I do not know what to do from here!

If you cannot show that the vehicle as insured at the time of the stop, then you will likely be hit for a very expensive citation ($760 per the CA recommended bail and fee schedule).
