Default To Be a Cosigner on a Business Contract

I'm an international student studying in US. Recently, my friend in Europe wants to do business with a company in Boston. The Boston company wants to sell their product (such as fish oil, nutrition products, etc...) to my friend. My friend will then redistribute the products in Europe. They talked with each other via phone and email and reached some oral agreement. But in order to make a formal contract, the Boston company wants a person in US to co-sign for my friend ( in case...). Naturally, my friend asked me if I can help him. While I have no interest to get involved in business issues, I do want to help him. I just don't know if this will affect my studying here. As a student I don't want to get any trouble. Any suggestion? Please help. Thanks a lot!

You don't sign anything unless their is a contract, and you don't sign the contract until you run it by an attorney who specializes in international business law.

Also, since you are in international student, there may be other implications (or complications) with you sponsoring a business here in the US, especially if you're not a US citizen. Again, run everything by an attorney first.
