Default Can I Become a Pilot with a Sealed Juvenile Record

My question involves criminal records for the state of: california.
    Hello,
New to this forum, so let me say thanks you for your input. When i was sixteen i obtained my first and only felony conviction. the court recommended community service. when the case finally closed two years later my attorney said not to worry about it because it was now sealed, to act as if it never happend. i am now in the middle of applying to flight schools that require a FBI: background check. will my juvenile record show up? can i become a pilot?

What was the felony conviction for?

What type of pilot's license are you wanting to get?
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

Is it sealed? Or is it destroyed?

If it's sealed then there is still a record of it which could be stumbled across. If it was destroyed, then there's no record of it.

I might be wrong in this, but as I understand it, if it's a sealed juvenile record, then as a matter of law you can state you haven't been convicted of anything.

I'm a private pilot and, from what I can remember, as long as it wasn't a conviction involving an alcohol related offense, mental health issue, or firearms violation, you should be OK for a private pilots license.

Commercial or military, that's a different story, especially if the record is only sealed.

One day the pilot of a Cherokee 180 was told by the tower to hold short of the active runway while a DC-8 landed. The DC-8 landed, rolled out, turned around, and taxied back past the Cherokee. Some quick-witted comedian in the DC-8 crew got on the radio and said, "What a cute little plane. Did you make it all by yourself?" The Cherokee pilot, not about to let the insult go by, came back with a real zinger: "I made it out of DC-8 parts. Another landing like yours and I'll have enough parts for another one."
Blue-side up! Best wishes to you
