    Default Informed Consent

My question involves civil rights in the State of: Personal consent

    Hello,
For an assignment I have been asked to critique some ethical based questions and I was hoping someone else might be able to add more input.

    Scenario:
Some researchers want to take saliva from the bottles of runners after a running event downtown for analysis of their genetic information. However the runners will not know that they are actually part of a study, in order to maximize participation.

This is [U]actually[U] against the law correct? Is there actually a law against this?
If there is what exactly is it? Is it because participants are not giving informed consent?
    thanks

Now if we go and do your homework for you, how on earth are you ever gonna learn?

It's also too good of an assignment for you NOT to do it.

Let us know what you come up with.

Do a search on informed consent and see what you learn.

I see your five and raise you one. I'm just kidding.

This is a wonderful chance for a topic. Of course, now we'll all be waiting to see what you come up with before we toss it around. ^_^

Despite what far too many people think, the law in the US and Canada is NOT the same. This is primarily a US site; the responders here (MOST of us ) have knowledge about US law but few if any have any knowledge of Canadian law.
