Default Father Wants To Establish Paternity

Exgirlfriend had my daughter 2 years ago, I did not sign the birth certificate, and we have never established paternity. The fathers name on the birth certificate is blank.
I have helped her financially on occasion. She refuses to start proceedings with the Texas Attorney General's office to establish paternity and child support. She has told me that child is mine, but wants nothing from me and refuses to let me see the child.
I was told by a "rep" from the Attorney General's office that there is a statute of limitations in Texas for establishing paternity, they're saying I "waited too long" to do anything about the situation.

The Texas Attorney General's office seems to favor the custodial parents rights more often than the non-custodial parent. It's very easy to fill out the necessary paperwork for a paternity court order by the mothers request, yet when the father wants to do the same, they are not willing to do this for me? I am confused!

I don't know what to do, is contacting a lawyer my only option, or does the Attorney General's office required to establish paternity if requested by the potential father?

    Help!

    Thanks so much.

    Default Commencing a Paternity Action

Commence an action yourself, or hire a lawyer to do it for you.

The AG's office only gets involved if the custodial parent asks them to or the custodial parent and/or child receive state benefits (food stamps, tanif, medicaid). They only handle child support. They cannot help with custody and/or visitation.

You will have to file for visitation rights (you can do it yourself, but if you can afford a lawyer, GET ONE). The judge will order a paternity test. Once paternity has been established, custody, visitation and child support will be determained. If you can't work out an agreement with each other, the judge will decide.
