My motorcycle was towed two days ago, I contacted the tow company and they said I'm to pay 293 dollars and $33 a day to get it out. They said it they towed it from my apartment complex because there was no permit. I've lived there for 5 years and had the motorcycle parked all off last winter. I was also gone for about 6 months and returning I saw a couple notes which my housemate had placed on the counter about having to register your vehicle. So I tried getting one at the office three times, but each time no ones there. After about a week, my housemates car was towed and my motorcycle wasn't so I assumed that It was registered already. I also thought I would probably get a notice if it was going to get towed. So I left it and the next week it was towed. I'm not sure what I can do in this case but would appreciate any information as to what my rights are.
I've been googling the topic and in some places I've found that it's illegal to patrol private lots and to charge too much, I'm not sure if that's true in Oregon. The price seems to high for a motorcycle which is light and doesn't take any room compared to a larger vehicle it should cost 4 times cheaper for removal and storage, and there was no notice aside from the 5 letters my landlord said he gave me of which I was only able to read one.
thanks you in advance for any information.
