Hi all,
My fiance and I both agreed to have a prenuptial agreement. A little background information about us:
Him - He is 10+ years older and would bring in more assets than I do. He is a business owner. He currently lives in a rental apartment and does not own any property. He plans to purchase commercial or residential property within the next 5 years.
Me - I am bringing in less assets in the relationship. I do not own any property currently. But I do foresee myself purchasing property in 8 to 10 years. I will still be working when he retires in 10 years.
Notes: there were occasions that my fiance and I had financial disagreements (e.g. he promised to pay 2/3 of a vacation as he makes significantly more than I do but later failed to keep his promise and demanded I pay more or compensate in other areas such as help at his business).
My questions are:
1) As a woman in such situation, what in particular should I look at in a prenuptial agreement to protect myself now and in the future when I am still working and he already retires?
2) He is likely to purchase a residential apartment before me and will fully finance the downpayment. I will be contributing to the monthly mortgage to the ownership of his property. What if (knock on wood!) in case of divorce, how would the property be handled?
All advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Gin
