    Default Child Support-Bench Warrant

    My question involves child support in the State of: Georgia+Michigan

    What am I supposed to do? I have an open bench warrant for back child support that I owe. I have applied for social security disability, as I am unable to work. I have seizures and suicidal tendencies, no it is not an excuse. I have no money to even eat, how am I going to stay out of jail? I have no income and live here and there friends willing, please help.

    I owe they say 24,000 in arrears, and haven't been able to see or speak to my four children for ten years, does this ever end? hmy ex earns 200K a year, last year my income was less than 8,000. I am in GA, he lives in Michigan, today they tried to serve a bench warrant on me.

    The best thing to do is to gather up all of your documentation proving that you are disabled. Gather up as much cash as you can get. Then, turn yourself in. Yes, you will be arrested, but you will be brought into court, that's when you can present your evidence. It will help alot if you have formulated a realistic plan for payments to offer in court.

    Will you be recieving SSDI ? If so, your minor children will also recieve benefits.

    face your issues.
    Arrears cannot 'go away' due to the Federal Bradley Amendment - thanks to the Clinton's - and INTEREST is accruing on that debt.
    Turn your self in - but go Prepared.
    Have all your documents ready and COPIES with someone on the outside.
    Have a Power of Attorney for you done so someone can help you once you go in. Ask for a public defender too.
    You can be sent to Federal Prison if you do not confront and address this problem. Do not be naive.

    In 2003, Keith McLeod, author of The Multiple Scandals of Child Support, testified before the Committee on Ways and Means that

    "The 1986 Bradley Amendment to Title IV-D forbids any reduction of arrearage or retroactive reduction for any reason, ever. This reinforces the approach that inability to pay is no excuse. Needless to say, there are endless stories of men who are now crushed by a debt they will never be able to pay because they were:

    * In a coma
    * A captive of Saddam Hussein during the first Gulf War
    * In jail
    * Medically incapacitated
    * Lost their job but were confident of another so did nothing until it was too late
    * Did not know they could not ask for retroactive adjustments and waited too long
    * Cannot afford a lawyer to seek adjustment when adjustment was warranted

    You seem to love to rant, rave and say silly things on political subjects. But here's a news flash for you: Clinton was elected in 1992. You want to blame a President for legislation that passed in 1986? As any person who is even slightly politically informed would know, that's when Ronald Reagan was President.
