Default Paternity in Louisiana
My question involves paternity law for the State of: Louisiana

My situation is as follows. I was with the mothers child for 3 years. When he was born I was lead to believe that he was mine and only mine. Over the years things have slowly slipped out and its possible that there could be three other possible fathers of the child. We separated not long ago and it all came out. My name IS on the birth certificate.
My question is this:Can I remove my last name off of the b.c. if he is not mine?
And what agency would I start with?
I am not paying child support but am paying the mothers car note, insurance, and his health insurance as a substitute.

Thanks for everyone's help in advance.

You may want to consult with an attorney. There are many that offer low cost/no cost consultations. Ultimately, you may have to initiate a paternity suit and ask for a dna test. If the test comes back saying you are not the father then the court can order that birth certificate be changed.

Attorneys familiar with paternity issues in Louisiana can be found at http://www.healthanddna.com/paternit...ectory.html#LA. The Lousiana Department of Social Services at http://www.dss.louisiana.gov/departm...ervices_P.html may also be able to answer your question.
