Misdemeanor Assault Bench Warrant
My question involves criminal law for the state of: New York
I was involved in an altercation with a former room mate. He attacked me and I defended myself. He got the worse end of the deal with me causing a cut while I received only bruises. He was the one who called the cops although he started the whole thing and I got arrested for assault. I later that day filed harassment charges on him as well since that is all they said I could do.
The court case went on for over 6 months of postponements due to the D.A. being unprepared and the plaintiff's unwillingness to reduce the charges as well as his out of state move. I then requested a postponement due to my own out of state move and that was denied. A bench trial was set and I was informed that if I did not show up there would be a warrant. I was unable to show up because of a move out of state. A warrant was issued.
My question is about a statute of Limitations on the warrant...is there one? If not what is the best way for me to resolve this stupid issue if I do not possess the time or money to go back across country to take care of this in person.
