Default Making Payments to a Debt Collector
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Michigan

I was reading an online discussion and am quoting in part from
that discussion:

"If you pay the debt collector under the name of Citigroup or Capital One
- you are paying the wrong party and your credit record wll never
accurately reflect that your debt has been paid."

I don't know if that is an accurate statement or not, but it did
make me stop and think about the money I am going to be repaying
for a very long time to a company I know very little about.

Weitman, Reinberg & Reis won a judgement against me on behalf
of Capital One..
Most of their documents contain this wording:
"This law firm is a debt collector attempting to collect this debt for
our client and any information obtained will be used for that purpose."

Since the judgement they have garnished my state tax refund.

How will I know that Capital One actually receives notice of
that payment from WW & R?

In the future, if I send WW & R a check or money order should I
make those payments strictly out to Capital One and not the law firm
since they have stated they are collecting for their client, Capital One?

Exactly what should I do to ensure that Capital One receives and
updates my credit record for payments towards this judgement
or do I just put my trust in the law firm?

Thanks..

Make the check payable to whomever the collection letters indicate.

Capital One is known to use this firm. Hang on to your correspondence and make sure you retain proof of payment.

Thank you for your answer.
I will do what you suggested..

Capitol One charged off and closed this account several years ago
and I just wanted to make sure that they are the current creditor
so my payments will be accurately received and updated.
From the discussion I was reading it didn't sound like that
would be the case, which is why I was concerned.

Thanks again..

You would make the payments to whomever the law firm that got the judgment against you tells you to.
