Default Wedding Service Provider: Bate and Switch

TEXAS: 30 minutes before I walked down the aisle, the day of my wedding - the hair stylist/make-up artist changed the price. She charged me almost $1000 (we had agreed upon $500 two days earlier - verbally). I paid the entire amount because I did not have the time to negotiate, considering the circumstances.

I sent her a 'nasty-gram' expressing how upset I was and her attorney has sent me a letter threatening me with 'theft of service'. I don't get it, I already paid her. The transaction occurred on 08/30/08. She ruined my entire day with her price gouging, I would like to sue her for emotional distress. I need legal representation, I live in Dallas. I don't want to drop it, it's the principle of the matter.

Take it up with small claims court. Check with your local county government which most likely has a website as to how to go about doing it. You shouldn't need an attorney, it's a do-it-yourself kind of thing.

Your not going to get a great payday here...you had a responsiblity to get a price in WRITING (as with all the other people you contracted with on the big day...caterer, florist, hall, etc). You also had the option of saying "no thanks" and promptly do your own hair and makeup.

Thanks for your quick response. I'd like to still believe that people are of their word - I know, that's very naive of me. I got lucky with the rest of the service suppliers, the wedding was organized entirely via long distance. I live in Dallas, but the wedding was in Brownsville, Texas. They did the hair and make-up, then told me the 'new' price. I didn't have a chance to say "no thanks". But thank you for your advice.

Your welcome. You also have a chance of winning in court so I hope you take it. Hope your day went great otherwise!
