    Default Erroneous Parking Ticket

My question involves a traffic citation from the state of: Maryland

Approximately 4 months ago I received a notice from Prince Georges County Maryland saying a traffic ticket was issued to my vehicle. The original ticket was issued in January of this year, so as you can imagine, some serious penalties have accrued. The 50 dollar ticket became 200.00.

Since I've never been to the address that was listed in the ticket, I immediately called up the county to see if they had the wrong tag number. Well, it turns out the tag number on the ticket is the same as mine, but what is different is the make, model and color of the car listed on the ticket. Also, the officer wrote on the ticket that my tag expires on April '08, but in reality, my tags expire in October of this year. I tried explaining this to the person I spoke with, but the only response was that I need to request a court date. Well I have, and it's been almost 4 months and I still haven't heard from them with the date. I've called several times and they still say the ticket is pending a court case. Now my question is, what should I take to prove my innocence? I have a copy of my vehicle registration, which shows the make and model of my vehicle. And I also have a copy of the ticket which shows all the erroneous information. Should this be a no brainer to the court? What else do I have to do to prove my innocence??

What seems most likely here is that the officer transposed numbers or letters on the license plate while writing out a ticket. Or one character was confused for another when the ticket was entered into the court system due to issues with penmanship, although if you have a copy of the ticket you should be able to figure out if that's a high or low possibility.

How far off is the make and color? If the officer wrote "red Ford Escort" and your car is "burgundy Mercury Lynx", that's a smaller error than, say, writing "green Ford F-150".

Make sure you take your registration information with you. I suggest also taking a photograph of your car showing its actual color, make and model, and license plate.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely take photograph of the car with me.
I don't have a copy of the actual ticket, but what the county did send was a printout of citation in their computer system. The printout has my tag number with an incorrect expiry date, and shows the vehicle being a "grey nissan maxima", where my vehicle is a "Black Audi". So to me this seems to me like a clear mistake somewhere along the assembly line. I wish I could see a copy of the actual ticket...
