Minor in Possesion of Alcohol

My question involves criminal law for the state of: CA, Orange County

Last november a girlfriend of mine had alcohol in my car without my knowledge. We were parked waiting to meet up with some people when a police officer on a bike asked to search my vehicle, since i didnt believe i had anything illegal in the car i went ahead and told him to do so. He found in her purse a water bottle of alcohol, although it was hers, it was in my car and we recieved minor possesion of alcohol charges. At the time time i was fighting a case in SC County where i ended up serving 4 months, came back last may and could not show up to court for the minor poss. charge since i was in custody. Got my scholarship back, and went right back to shcool, been in school since and today i recieved a backround check notice from an employer saying i have 4 counts of court contempt, that 2,3, and 4 have been dropped, and that my sentence for it is ten years? Im just curious as to if thats accurate. thank you.

Other than what you tell us, we have no way of knowing anything about your criminal history or sentences, and no way of finding out. Consult a criminal defense lawyer.

You need to contact your local county Clerk of Courts to see what charges still stand against - you likely have a warrant out for your arrest for failure to appear.

Once you know what the charges are, you need to get a lawyer.

apparently in California they are cracking down on this.

i was technically in possession because my passenger had a beer in his pocket...so yeah I'm guessing it's a serious offense. im praying i get away with a slap on the wrist and a fine.
