actually what does a deferred disposition mean? is it different from being convicted?

will it still reflect on the records?

It depends upon the jurisdiction and program. Usually it means that you enter a plea and if you stay out of trouble no conviction is entered. Sometimes it references a diversion program which doesn't require a plea and results in dismissal of the charge upon successful completion of the probationary period.

The manner in which it would appear on a criminal record depends upon the nature of the deferment and the state in which the charge was filed.
