My question involves paternity law for the State of: Maryland
My husband and I were not married yet and he was not at the hospital when she was born.. she was born in south carolina and we now reside in maryland. Could we go to the vital statistics in maryland to have him sign the needed papers(acknowledgement of paternity) or do we have to have it done in south carolina?
You may need to contact the SC government, but I think it gets filed where the child is born. That is how it works in California. Everything related to the birth certificate gets filed in California, even if its years after the birth and you moved to another state.
