I recieved a summons to appear in magistrates court for a $550.00 collections bill that's about 3 years old I am a college student with no job so I am unable to pay this. Is there jail time associated with this type of lawsuit? Also what are my options if any?

If you are sued over nonpayment of a debt, there's no jail time involved. It's a civil suit.

Answer the lawsuit and appear in court as required by the notice. Ask the court if you can pay in equal monthly installments.

Thanks for the reply. Also I have another question someone told me that if I can't pay this debt that the collection agency can make a request to get my property such as my car that I own is this a true statement? I plan to pay this when I can but I don't have the money right now and a small monthly payment would be more attainable, anyway please let me know about the property situation. Thanks again

They will typically seek to collect the debt against any assets which are not exempt from their collection efforts under the laws of your state.
