Default My Car Hit While Parked in Private Driveway, I Am Not Insured, What Happens Now?

My question involves a traffic accident in the State of: Ohio

Forgetting to renew my insurance, I have been driving uninsured for a couple months now.

This evening, parked in a friend's driveway, the mother of the friend came inside to tell me she had scraped the side of my car while she was backing out. She is unaware I am uninsured and it looks like I will be breaking the news to her in the morning.

Given that I am uninsured, what happens now? Is it going to be ok since I was not actually driving the car? Does it matter that it was on private property? What kind of trouble am I in? Since I have no insurance, I'm not even sure who to talk to.

Please help. Thank you so much in advance for responses.

Since she is at fault, the damages ought to be covered by her insurance.

Of course, the larger problem here is that you're wandering about without insurance. This can get you:

    * Lose drivers license for at least 30 days, up to a year
    * No driving privileges during suspension (at least 30, up to 90 days)
    * License plates and vehicle registration suspension
    * License reinstatement fees of $75-$500
    * $50 penalty for failing to surrender license, plates or vehicle registration to the BMV
    * Requirement to obtain auto insurance. If violator cancels or nonrenews insurance within a five-year monitoring period, the insurance agent or company will notify the BMV.
    * Vehicle immobilization and confiscation of plates for 30-60 days for violating FR suspension. Third and subsequent offenses may mean vehicle forfeiture and a five-year moratorium on vehicle registrations.

You'd do well to get some insurance, pronto.
