Was It Careless Driving? And Why Two Tickets for Belt?

My question involves a careless driving ticket from the State of: New Jersey

I got three tickets for careless driving and two failue of seat belt. At 2 pm on Sunday no cars was on the crossroad and I hesitated whether to go left or straight. And I moved to straight just after stopping on crossroad. No one, no cars injured.
A Police officer pulled over and inspected my car and realized that my two kids(10 and 8) didn't wear seat belt at rear seat. Because I was shocked, I could not explain the situation and I got three tickets. Could you anybody help me how I should do?

You got two tickets because you had two unbelted children - one ticket for each child.

Can you provide a better description of what you did that got you the careless driving ticket?

The situation is as follows.
On the crossroad I entered 2nd lane that is for straight or right turn, but I realized I got wrong way. So, I tried to left turn, but actually didn't.(I didn't illegal left turn) There is only a second stop in the crossroad.

Did you try to turn left, or did you go straight? How do you try to turn left without changing the orientation of your car?

I turned the wheel slightly, then went straight.

Apparently it was enough that the officer believed you were swerving, out of control, or something else he deemed "careless".
