Can I Sue My Attempted Murderer if I Survive

My question involves court procedures for the state of: Mississippi

An attempt on my life was taking in 1994 by a man later convicted of numerous murders. I am alive by the grace of god. He has confessed to 49 murders.
My question is, what rights do I have as a victim of this man 14 years later.
I have managed to suppress this attempt on my life from my memory until now. I was flashed back to the horror by a picture of him I saw on the internet last week.
He is being held in a Colorado prison on two counts of murder and two life sentences so far.
Please help if you can.

You still haven't answered the question. What are you attempting to get out of this? You're going to spend money suing him. You're never going to get that money back. You're going to spend time suing him. You're never going to get that time back. SO, what is the reason why you're contemplating this? There has got to be one. You just haven't said the words.

That's what I thought you would say. Yes, victims funds are available, but, the amounts paid are low. And, for you, I suspect that they wouldn't even cover a few hours for an attorney. I've heard about payments ranging from $25 to a few thousand dollars. You do need counseling.

I spent two weeks with a serial murderer and the memories are returning.

Under Mississippi's Crime Victim Compensation Act of 1990, you DO have victim rights. The maximum total award is $10,000.00 with the following limitations:

Medical Expenses $10,000.00
Lost Wages $150.00 per week
Loss of Support $150.00 per week
Mental Health Counseling $2,500.00
Funeral Expenses $3,500.00

BUT as in all states, you have to exercise them within a reasonable time - in Mississippi you must have filed your claim within 18 months of the crime (and the crime itself must have typically been reported within 72 hours). No, repressed memory isn't going to change any of that.

Other expenses like property damage, property loss, or pain and suffering must go via the civil court system (but as others have already pointed out, if he's incarcerated there's nothing for you to collect, even if you win).
