Default DNA Test and Name on Birth Certificate
My question involves paternity law for the State of: Georgia

Why my child can't have the name of the biological father on the birth certificate since a DNA test has determined who is the biological father?

Thank you

Who told you his name can't be on the birth certificate? Was the DNA test court ordered?

Who, if anyone, is presently named as the father on the birth certificate, and how did that happen? How old is your child?

If you were not married to the father, there could be some other forms he will have to file to have his name added to the birth certificate. For example, you both may have to sign some sort of paternity acknowlegement, or request to amend the birth certificate. The State of Georgia should have a website that can provide some information.

The problem, the biological father is being mean. He doesn't want to sign the paternity acknowlegdement so my name is on the child's birth certificate. He has been ordered by the court a DNA test and to pay child support.

A lawyer has advised me and actually filed for a name change so that I can have the name of the biological father on the birth certificate. And finally she told me the court needs the permission of the biological father.

I don't understand why the court will have somebody pay for child support for a child one doesn't want to acknowledge as his.

PS: my child is 11 months old.In my culture it is very important for a child to have his biological father's name otherwise he will be considered unfortunately as a "bastard" and will probably be marginalized.

Thank you for your answer.
