Statute of Limitations for a Personal Loan in Texas

My question involves personal finance in the State of: Texas
In oct of 2007 i allowed mt boyfriend to reside in an apt. that i put under my name as well as the utilities with the understanding that they would be paid on time. the lease was for 6 months. in apil 2007 he left an outstanding balance of $500.00 on the energy bill and since then i have been unable to collect. My only evidence are text messages saying that he would repay and this and that and giving me the run around. Recently i sent him a letter of demand for payment certified. I have yet to receive a response..Can i still take him to small claims? and if so can the text messages be used as evidence?

Yes, sue him in small claims court for repayment + court costs. Take the text messages.
