Default Does a Minor Hold Any Rights?
My question involves juvenile law in the State of: FL

Does a minor hold any rights? If so, what are they?

My father has told me that as a minor, I have no rights whatsoever. But I'm pretty sure that the it's "born with unalienable rights" - however this is from the Declaration, which is a letter and not a law book. He also said that minors don't deserve rights like adults do; unfortunately, most people don't deserve the rights, but they do reserve them.

If you could cite your sources, that'd be great =)

Unemancipated minors really don't have rights. Instead, parents have responsibilities, such as providing food, shelter, medical care (generally), and ensuring that their child gets education as mandated by law.

There are a very few exceptions to this, and most of those in Florida center around medical privacy issues like being able to be treated for STD's without parental consent.

Your inner quote centers mainly on the U.S. Constitution. In the SC case of Tinker, 1969, they ruled "Children do not loose thier constitutional rights at the schoolhouse gate", as one example.

However, the parental function, although at times, possibly, does not encompass Constitutional protections, state or federal.

As Catherine pointed out, your "rights" mainly center on what the law mandates your parents must provide for you and how you are to be treated, physically, mentally, emotionally, ect.

I have seen books at the library about "Rights of Juveniles". I never leafed through it, so I have no idea on if it is soley constitutional in nature, I suspect not!!
