Accident without insurance

My husband wrecked our jeep liberty last week and we had no insurance. There was no other vechicles involved and no property damage. However, our jeep was totaled (it was flipped multiple times). I was wondering what legal action might be taken by the state. I live in Indiana. Can you be imprisioned for no insurance? Or what else may happen. By the way, we still owe on it. Thanks in advance for any advice given

In Indiana, driving an uninsured car is a traffic misdemeanor, and if charged it carries a possibility of a jail sentence (unlikely for a first offender) plus a fine, assessment of court costs, and a driver's license suspension. There might also be a possible charge of leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Can there still be a leaving the scene charge, if he didn't leave the scene? There was police on the scene, He was transported in an ambulence. There also wasn't any property damage that amounted to much and the man who owns it doesn't want anything from us.
