    Default Washington State Radar Detector

I live in King County in Washington STATE not DC. My step mom was coming back from Oregon and she said when she crossed the border into WA there was a sign on the highway that said radar detectors are illegal in Washington.

Is this true, from all I've read it's only Washington DC and Virginia that ban them in private vehicles.
I searched the WA vehicle laws and could not find any mention of detectors.

    Any insight on this?

To the best of my knowledge, radar detectors are NOT illegal in WA -- and they are for sale in many different stores. I know there was a law against them back in the 60's, but it was repealed in the 70's. That's not to say that certain counties or towns don't still have ordinances against them. But, I cannot find anything in the RCW's or WAC's that prohibit the use of radar detectors. My advice would be to call your local police station and ask.

It looks like radar detectors are not regulated in Washington state. They may be prohibited from use in commercial vehicles, but I didn't find any reference to an RCW or WAC stating so ...
