Car Title Issues

My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: Texas

We purchased two vehicles from a car lot a year ago. To date, we still have not received the titles for said vehicles. We have been back and forth to the car lot about this issue for the past 10 months and continue to get the same explanation--"we submitted the paperwork but sometimes it takes them a while to get it to you." I know it does not take that long to get a title! I purchased a car from a car lot outside the city a couple of years back and it took only 3-4 weeks before I received the title in the mail. I am starting to believe that something is not right here. A couple of weeks ago, the two vehicles were towed from my apartment complex because the property manager thought that the vehicles were abandoned due to expired tags. We have been unable to renew the tags/insurance without the paperwork. Now the vehicles have been towed, the cost will continue to accumulate while it is being stored and still we are unable to get it out because we have not paperwork on it and in the meanwhile, the car lot continues to give us the same story. This has gone on long enough! What can we do? Any guidance you can provide is very much appreciated.

I am sorry you are having this problem. Yes you are correct, here in Texas the title is comes back from DMV in Austin Texas in approx 2 to 3 weeks. If there was a lien holder on your title (if you took out a loan) the title will be mailed to you LIEN HOLDER and NOT to you.

You do not state on this post if you paid cash for the autos or if they are financed.

If you paid CASH without a lienholder you would need to contact Texas DMV in Austin. Dealer complaint division is 1-877-366-8887.

I bought a new vehicle in March & paid cash (no lienholder) & got the title in a little over 3 weeks.

You definitely need to put in a complaint if you paid *cash* & there is *no* lienholder.

The two vehicles were paid in full and in cash--no lienholder.
