Asked To Resign After A Work-Related Injury

My question involves workers compensation law for the state of: NC I have had a serious work related back injury requiring emergency surgery with nerve damage, conia equinia, and cannot walk on my own. I am a law enforcement officer and I am doing light duty at home typing reports. After finding out it will take 17 months to recover Human resourse wants me to resign or to be fired stating that I will receive workers comp salary?!! Is this correct?

The longest your employer is required to hold your job for you, barring a bona fide contract or CBA, is 12 weeks. 17 months is considerably longer than they are obligated to wait for you to recover. So yes, they may legally make such a request.

But what about the salary? Will he still receive workers comp salary until maximum medical recovery?
