My question involves marriage law for the State of: Kentucky
Upon my grandfather's recent death (in Indiana), my grandmother requested a copy of their marriage certificate from Jefferson County, KY, where they were married in 1940. The marriage certificate could not be located. My grandmother cannot receive the social security benefits she is entitled to without a certificate of marriage. My grandmother is so broken-hearted after the loss of her husband of 67 years and now she is embarrassed that her marriage certificate cannot be located. I have spoken to the Clerks Office in Jefferson County; they seem to indicate there are manual files that must be difficult to look through. They advised me to contact the Department of Vital Statistics, KY; there marriage records begin in 1953. The Clerks Office also advised me to check Rootsweb.com; nothing found. Any help is appreciated.
