Question Father Wishing To Establish Paternity

My question involves paternity law for the State of: North Dakota

I am a supposed father looking to establish paternity of my child. The child has supposedly been born just last week...6 weeks premature. The birth mother will not tell me anything about where the child is at or how the child is doing. I am concerned that I may never see the child as well, for she is wanting to put the child up for adoption. I have many questions, but the main one is this: Should I get a lawyer to petition the court making her agree to a DNA test or COULD I petition the court MYSELF, without a lawyer, by filing forms at the court house?? The reason is any lawyer I've consulted wants $1500 to do this. I do not have that much money at this time. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
