    Default Social Security Debit Card

My question involves judgment recovery in the State of:california

i was reading that social security is going to offer pre paid debit cards in lieu of paper checks to those that do not have a bank acct. the debit cards will be issued by a bank and replenished every month. will they be safe from judgement creditors? can they be levied or attached like a bank acct?

Except for some Federal agencies (like the IRS), creditors may not garnish ANY Social Security income.

i have heard that ss income is exempt, but would that stop some of these collection agencys from trying, would it be a violation of any thing, since all that can be put on the card is clearly ss income? i am guessing a judge would not let them have it,but having to defend yourself in court to get it released would be a hardship on many, i have dealt with these "people" and know they would stop at nothing to ruin your life. i think i will stay with paper checks and let walmart cash them.

It's impossible to garnish a debit card.

They could TRY to levy the bank account it's associated with, but I would expect that they'd be laughed at by the bank.

It wouldn't even make it to the stage of having to defend your money in court.
