Is it possible that you won't get a civil demand?

I was caught about 3 weeks ago for stealing something under 20 dollars. they told me that i MIGHT get a civil demand letter in the mail..I have still recieved nothing..has anyone been told this and never recieved the civil demand? How long do you think I will have to wait? How much do you think I will be fined? I live in Illinois. Also-THe outside of the envelope won't say "civil demand notice enclosed" or anything will it? Thanks..

If four months pass and you haven't heard anything, you probably won't.

The way this works is the information is processed and usually reviewed. Sometimes its a waste of man hours to civil every one especially if its not worth the effort. You may still recieve one though so don't get your hopes up. Usually the only real factor is age, if one is to young or to old to fully take responsibility for the shoplifting event.
