Default Should I Put The Father On The Birth Certificate?

My question involves paternity law for the State of: California//Indiana//and overseas

I'm currently active duty in the military and am debating on whether or not I should put my baby's father's name on the birth certificate. He's also active duty military stationed in California, but from Indiana. I'm a resident of California myself, but am currently stationed overseas.

My question is, if I put the father's name on my daughter's birth certificate (it will be a birth certificate from my host country), will it create difficulties for me to obtain a US passport for my baby or will it effect any other issues that may pop up in my daughter's life, as far as having to have his consent on anything?

Please advise. Thank you in advance!

Why wouldn't you identify the father and register the birth with the Embassy in the nation in which you're based?
