    Default Getting A Civil Subpoena

My question involves court procedures for the state of: California Alameda County

I have a lawsuit against a lady who was the trustee of my grandmothers estate.

Since she is the defendant can i subpoena documents from her relating to the life insurance policy. OR

do I have to send a request for production of documents? Or is it best to subpoena her?

I have books and they do not explain this well I know I can subpoena

    You don't have a lawyer?

If you want her to bring documents, for example, to a court hearing or deposition, you would probably want to subpoena the documents. If there's no rush, a request for production is generally easier to prepare and serve.
